CommerceGurus

Hi there, hope you're having a great Friday!

This is Colm and Simon from CommerceGurus, with a handpicked weekly roundup of eCommerce articles.

We're back from a fantastic weekend at WordCamp Europe in Kraków, Poland. It was a delight spending time with so many WordPress and WooCommerce legends!

30 WooCommerce Performance Tips

In this excellent article, Marcin Dudek shares practical ways to speed up WooCommerce stores beyond simply installing a caching plugin.

The guide covers improvements like reducing unnecessary scripts, optimising images, choosing better hosting, trimming plugin bloat, and improving checkout and mobile performance - all aimed at creating a faster, smoother shopping experience.

He makes the point that performance is no longer just a technical metric sitting in Lighthouse reports.

Faster stores feel more trustworthy, create less friction during shopping, and increasingly influence both search visibility and conversions.

Rather than chasing one “silver bullet” fix, Marcin shows how lots of smaller improvements can compound into a noticeably better eCommerce experience.

AI-Referred Shoppers Convert Better and Spend More: What Shopify's Early Data Shows

Shopify has shared early data showing that AI-driven shopping is already becoming a meaningful eCommerce channel.

According to Shopify’s numbers, shoppers arriving from tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude convert at significantly higher rates and tend to spend more than traditional organic search visitors.

The reason is what Shopify describes as “journey compression” - AI tools help shoppers narrow down options before they even visit a store, meaning users often arrive much closer to making a purchase.

Structured product data, clear product descriptions, strong trust signals, FAQs, reviews, and well-organised content all help AI systems understand and recommend products more accurately. This is something we have previously written about.

So brands that are easiest for AI to interpret are more likely to surface in recommendations and conversational search results.

Introducing Canonical WooCommerce Abilities for Products and Orders

WooCommerce 10.9 is introducing a new set of canonical “abilities” for products and orders - part of its broader push toward AI-powered and “agentic” commerce.

These abilities create a more structured, standardised way for AI tools and automations to interact with WooCommerce stores, covering things like querying products, updating orders, changing statuses, and managing store data.

Rather than simply wrapping REST APIs, WooCommerce is building a more stable “capability layer” designed specifically for AI systems and future integrations.

The bigger picture is that WooCommerce is positioning itself for a future where AI assistants don’t just help merchants manage stores, but potentially help customers browse and shop too.

Optimized Product Page Image Examples

Optimized Product Page Image Examples

These six PDP images are a great example of how product imagery can do far more than simply “show the product.”

Instead, each image answers a different customer question and gradually builds confidence throughout the buying journey.

Across the set, the brand communicates the product’s core benefits (sleep, energy, vitality), explains how it works (multiple magnesium forms for absorption), highlights ease of use (“just 2 capsules daily”), shares measurable outcomes (“within 6 weeks men felt brand new”), and reinforces trust with customer reviews and lifestyle imagery.

What makes this approach effective is that the images function almost like a visual sales funnel directly on the product page.

Rather than relying on shoppers to read long blocks of text, the brand uses clear headlines, benefit-driven messaging, ingredient explanations, and social proof to quickly reduce hesitation and communicate value.
