Hi there, hope you're having a great Friday!
This is Colm and Simon from CommerceGurus, with a handpicked weekly roundup of eCommerce articles.
Google seller ratings are an automated extension that displays highly rated Google advertisers.
From a seller’s perspective, these evaluations could improve the performance of their Google ads and obtain more convertible traffic. On the flip side, it can help people find businesses that offer the quality products and services they need.
We'll explain how important these ratings have come to be and how you can leverage them for your business.

Smashing Magazine has a nice article this week on the importance of category page design, especially on mobile devices.
"After evaluating the top 30 ecommerce websites, it was found that product category pages outperform product pages in terms of ranking keywords and traffic".
This was very interesting to me. The article by Suzanne Scacca includes lots of suggestions and screenshots on how to improve these pages for conversions.

Miro - an online collaborative whiteboarding platform (includes a free plan)
With most of us quarantined at home, there has been renewed attention on collaborative apps, which allow teams to communicate efficiently while everybody are in different locations.
I've seen a number of agencies recommend Miro and it certainly looks like a nice way to allow people to work together on shared projects. If you have any recommended tools for working remotely with colleagues and clients I'd love to hear them.

The latest update to WordPress is here and there are some interesting new additions.
The Gutenberg editor continues to develop further and is becoming - albeit slowly - a more workable tool. I still wouldn't recommend building any complex sites with it, but the improvements are encouraging to see.
There are improved privacy tools which allow for improvements when it comes to erasing personal data upon request.
Finally there are new hooks which allows developers to add additional fields to menu items.
This has long been asked for and it's something we'll be looking to include in Shoptimizer in a future release to provide extra options in the mega menu.

We're big fans of Ahrefs - it's a brilliant tool for improving your content and deciding on what topics you should be writing about.
By analyzing keyword difficulty to can see what areas to focus on and how easy it would be to rank on the first page of Google.
They quietly launched a dedicated WordPress plugin this week and it allows you to perform a full content audit of your site even if you're not a paying customer.
Definitely one to try out.

Finally, something a little different. A friend of mine has created a coloring book to keep kids (and adults) entertained during the pandemic. It's a digital download, so you'd need to have a home printer handy.
It would be a great way to support a young interior designer during the quarantine. Plus, I know what's it's like getting one of your first sales from launching a digital product. It's a great feeling!
