Hi there, hope you're having a great Friday!
This is Colm and Simon from CommerceGurus, with a handpicked weekly roundup of eCommerce articles.
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) lawsuits are on the rise. Each year the number filed against eCommerce stores increases, with the latest data from 2023 showing no signs of slowing down.
Due to this, more and more website owners are facing court cases and potentially heavy fines.
Therefore, if you own an eCommerce store, you need to be aware of the ADA, how it could affect your site, and what the implications of that could be.
While the act was conceived in good faith, specialist law firms reportedly send out hundreds of letters to websites they believe are non-compliant with the ADA, seeking settlements and litigation.
In Joe Fylan's latest article, we cover what the ADA is, what can happen if your site isn’t ADA-compliant, and how you can audit your store and rectify any issues that are detected.

I'm enjoying the new short explainer videos Baymard is including within some of their articles, such as this one.
Many of the topics are nuanced and seeing it explained within a dynamic video adds a huge amount to understanding the reasoning.
In Baymard's research, they found that it’s critical to make sure the same attributes are included consistently across similar list items in the same product list.
Doing so allows users to easily and quickly compare these attributes at a glance across multiple items.
Plus, ensuring each element is visually distinct will enable users to easily pick out product attributes within a list.

This project uses a new approach to handle translation files in WordPress, making localization blazing fast.
An in-depth i18n performance analysis showed that localized WordPress sites load significantly slower than a site without translations.
With this plugin’s new approach to localization, this overhead is massively reduced, making your site fast again.
If your site is using a language other than English (US), you should see immediate speed improvements simply by activating this plugin.
Existing .mo files get converted to .php files which are then loaded by WordPress.

Increasingly, consumers are turning to social media to discover products, spending money based on the recommendations of both high-profile influencers and casual creators alike.
There are a few elements that move users to hop onto creators’ endorsements. At the core of this, say experts, is “source credibility”.
Even small elements like being able to see a creator’s face, hands or hear the way they speak can make a user view them as more trustworthy.
The short-form intimate nature of TikTok videos makes recommendations feel more natural, and opens up a pathway for users to trust creators.
