Hi there, hope you're having a great Friday!
This is Colm and Simon from CommerceGurus, with a handpicked weekly roundup of eCommerce articles.
Our friend Rodolfo from Business Bloomer gave an excellent talk last week for WordCamp Europe on optimizing your WooCommerce checkout page.
It's a short 13 minute video and it's an excellent summary of what big brands get right at this crucial step of the buying journey.
He also includes 10 PHP and CSS snippets on implementing his suggestions. The good news is if you're using our Shoptimizer theme we've covered almost all of these as standard, no extra coding or modifications needed.

You may have seen some excitement this week with the launch of Hey - a new email platform from the team who created the project management system, Basecamp.
It's easy to forget that Gmail is now 14 years old and there has been remarkably little innovation in this space since then.
Hey offers something quite different with a focus on privacy, including blocking tracking pixels as well as a new approach to dealing with important messages all at once.
For a full 37 minute walkthrough see the video recorded by its CEO, Jason Freid. This is a fascinating look at how an innovative company can look at an existing system with completely fresh ideas and a new perspective.

I found a useful checklist of common components found on the homepages of eCommerce sites this week. Made by eCommerce Guides, it's a good run down of elements found on many of the top stores, with screenshot examples of each.
No site will (or should) include all of these but it'd be a useful list to bookmark and see if you can get some ideas on freshening up your own store.

I've had a few questions this week on customizing the "Thank You" page in WooCommerce.
This is surprisingly difficult to do in WooCommerce - there's no page template to edit.
You're left with two approaches:
- Custom functions. If you're comfortable coding there's a good run down here with some example snippets.
- Use a plugin. For this approach I took a closer look at one of the most popular plugins out there. I even added it to our main CommerceGurus site and we're using it as our (modified) thank you page.

We've pretty much all heard of the Yoast SEO plugin. But you do know that it makes $12 million in revenue per year? This number was news to me. It's really impressive for what started as a simple SEO plugin for WordPress.
This interview with its CEO is a really interesting one, starting with its humble beginnings as a fully bootstrapped company to where it is today.

Latest Shoptimizer updates
If you've been using our Shoptimizer WooCommerce theme, we pushed a couple of small updates this week in version 2.1.7. See everything on the theme's changelog page.
That's it for this edition. Simply reply to this email if you have any questions or suggestions, we read every message. Have a great week and best of luck with your projects!
