Our latest blog post is how to solve the "Avoid an excessive DOM size" warning you might have seen in Google Lighthouse.
Your webpage has a large DOM size if it has too many DOM nodes or HTML tags or if these nodes or tags are nested too deep. This can lead to site performance issues such as jerky scrolling and slow page loading times.
Website owners, including eCommerce store owners, need to prepare their sites for the Google Page Experience update, as it will certainly factor in DOM size as a ranking signal.
In this post, we’ll take a look at what DOM is and explain how it can impact your site’s user experience. Along the way, we’ll also share some actionable tips to help you optimize your site pages for improved performance.

Backlinko published an excellent guide this month on email marketing with concrete steps on how to leverage it correctly.
The key data is well worth thinking about. The average email subscriber is worth $48.87. Email marketing’s ROI is an extraordinary 42:1.
This super high ROI is probably why 86% of marketers consider email “important” or “very important”.
So why does email still work so well? With Email, You Own The Distribution.
When a new subscriber signs up to your list, you have a direct line to that person’s inbox.

The team at Pagely have created a really interesting new plugin called Really Rich Results. It can be used to generate Schema.org structured data, empowering you to take advantage of Google’s Rich Results and featured snippets with minimal effort.
It began as an internal tool and over time the idea blossomed into a fully-fledged plugin.
Really Rich Results aims to provide every WordPress site with sane defaults and a rich set of customization options for easily adding JSON-LD structured data to your content.
For now, it will only be available to download from their Github repo, but they hope to release it on the .org plugins repo in due course.

Colm has added some excellent additional content to our Nexcess Review this week.
If you've missed this post originally and are on the lookout for a new WooCommerce-focused host with superb performance this post is well worth checking out.
They're one of the few companies that understand that Managed WooCommerce hosting isn’t simply about providing a first class technical platform. The tech is obviously critical but it’s only one part of an overall Managed Solution.
Nexcess are creating the ultimate bundle of WooCommerce people, technology products and services that are brought together in a very thoughtful and deliberate manner that no other hosting company has to date emulated.

Chris Lema has an excellent series of videos this week on how to set up a WooCommerce Memebership site quickly.
I've written about this official plugin previously and I really enjoyed using it; it's robust and easy to use with just the right amount of features.
As Chris puts it:
..you can actually build a WooCommerce membership site without a ton of complexity if you keep things simple.
In 7 steps and under 10 minutes he does just that.
If you've ever wondered about building a membership site this is a great post to check out.

I enjoyed this short (13 minute) and informative video from Google on preparing for their new page experience ranking signals.
While it is launching on mobile soon, the presentation reveals that it will be also coming to desktop.
They'll also be using an updated definition of CLS; rather than accounting for the entire life cycle of the page, it will now be capped at 5 seconds.

Latest Shoptimizer updates
If you've been using our Shoptimizer WooCommerce theme, we pushed a couple of minor updates this week in version 2.4.2 and 2.4.3. See everything on the theme's changelog page.
We also updated our CommerceKit plugin to version 1.2.7.
Our next "big" feature for that, which we announced last week, will be a new super-fast product gallery. You can see the performance scores we've been getting during testing.
Expect to see that drop by the end of June!
That's it for this edition. Simply reply to this email if you have any questions or suggestions, we read every message. Have a great week and best of luck with your projects!
