Hi there, hope you're having a great Friday!
This is Colm and Simon from CommerceGurus, with a handpicked weekly roundup of eCommerce articles.
Firstly, apologies for the broken link last week. Our review of Cloudways $10 a month hosting plan should have been this link.
And now, onto the newsletter!
Baymard has been tracking the global average cart abandonment rate now for 12 years, and not much has improved in this time.
The average cart abandonment rate currently sits at 68.8%.
Stop for a second to consider that: after having gone through the trouble of finding a product and adding it to their cart, a whopping 2 out of 3 users choose to abandon their purchase.
This important article goes through the key reasons why customers abandon carts and what you can do to help alleviate the issue. It's a key reason why we built Shoptimizer and many of our theme features are focused on solving this problem.

If most of your visitors are from Google (organic) or social media sites, most probably they are directly visiting the HTTPS version.
But what if there are visitors who directly visit your site entering the domain in the browser?
If you’ve set up https in your WordPress settings, then WordPress will take care of the redirection, but this will be done by PHP.
Depending on your hosting provider and load, redirection via PHP can be slow so it’s better to offload it from PHP.
This interesting guide from the WP Speed Matters blog shows you how to do this.

Two of the most frequent reasons a site might be slow are unoptimized PHP processes and heavy MySQL queries.
The web hosting company SiteGround has announced the new Ultrafast PHP, which significantly speeds up the processing of PHP scripts and improves website performance by up to 30%.
This server-side solution has brought down the number of slow queries between 10 and 20 times.
Everyone hosted on their shared Site Tools servers has already gotten the new MySQL setup. SiteGround are expecting to migrate anyone on cPanel by the end of March.

I spent time this week looking through Marketing Examples, a gallery of real world marketing examples from successful companies.
Built by Harry Dry, from the UK, it is a fantastic resource for eCommerce businesses when you need to get inspiration when it comes to improving your conversions.
His step-by-step guide to landing pages which convert is a great opening article to check out, but there's really a lot of great content on his site.
He's also launching a course later this year which looks well worth signing up for.
