Hi there, hope you're having a great Friday!
This is Colm and Simon from CommerceGurus, with a weekly roundup of eCommerce articles, handpicked by us.
Enjoy!
Sliders or carousels used to be ubiquitous on the web, especially on eCommerce websites. In 2015 Baymard reported that 52% of stores used one on their homepage. In recent years however we’ve seen a shift away from sliders, and for good reasons. We investigate why and look at alternatives to image sliders.
I enjoyed this terrific interview with the founder of One Life Meals, based in Toronto, Canada. It's an inspirational story for anyone running an eCommerce store as he describes mistakes made and gives candid advice for other entrepreneurs. Read about it over on Starter Story.
Cloudways has partnered with some of the biggest names in the industry to give some top prizes away for free. The Grand eCommerce Giveaway 2019 is your ticket to get premium tools for your store. It includes five copies of our popular Shoptimizer WooCommerce theme.
I was interested to see that there's a new plugin from developer Ben Gillbanks out called Toolbelt with a collection of commonly used features for WordPress sites. Its focus is very much on speed, simplicty and privacy.
Currently available modules include features such as breadcrumbs, browser native lazy loading, a portfolio custom post type, related posts, responsive video, static social sharing, and more.
We're very much focused on speed here at CommerceGurus so we'll be interested to see how this plugin develops and whether more WooCommerce-focused components will be included in a future release.
Brad Williams is joined by Topher DeRosia from BigCommerce and chats about what headless eCommerce is, how the integration with WordPress has gone so far, PCI compliance and what is in store for BigCommerce in the upcoming months. You can listen here.
BigCommerce is shaping up to be a very interesting alternative to WooCommerce in the WordPress space so it'll be fascinating to see how it progresses in the coming months.
If you're on the look out for web hosting at the moment it might be a good idea to check out our preferred partners SiteGround right now as they're having a huge discount on all of their plans. Their GoGeek plan is especially good for WooCommerce stores.
That's it for this edition. Simply reply to this email if you have any questions or suggestions, we read every message. Have a great week and best of luck with your projects!
