Hi there, hope you're having a great Friday!
This is Colm and Simon from CommerceGurus, with a handpicked weekly roundup of eCommerce articles.
In this article from The Good, they share the best sales strategies found to get more conversions without lowering prices.
Discounts cannibalize your profits, leaving you with razor thin margins. If you want a healthy bottom line, you probably don’t want your primary customers to be bargain hunters.
Strategies covered in this article include:
- Buy one, get one (if you have excess inventory)
- Free gift with a purchase
- Money back guarantees
- First purchase anniversary gift
- Upsell/complementary item at the checkout

Shopify has announced a price increase effective immediately for new accounts and on April 23, 2023 for existing merchants.
The price hike is pretty steep and the yearly vs monthly savings have been cut from 50% to 25%.
Monthly:
- Basic - $29 increasing to $39 (or €32)
- Shopify - $79 increasing to $105 (or €92)
- Advanced - $299 increasing to $399 (or €384)
The last half of 2022 was a tough one for Shopify as they laid off ~10% of their workforce in July.
These price increases certainly make WooCommerce more attractive especially for new store owners.

Crawl Optimization was previously a Pro feature but it is now available in the free version of the Yoast SEO plugin.
The crawl optimization feature in Yoast SEO lets you turn off crawling for certain types of URLs, scripts, and metadata that WordPress automatically adds.
This makes it possible to improve your SEO and reduce your carbon footprint with just a few clicks.

Monitorific is a new product which gives store owners peace of mind by providing automatic live checkout testing of your store so you can be instantly alerted if something goes wrong.
It's a problem that has affected eCommerce for years - some dodgy plugin update has broken crucial store functionality and you might not be aware of the problem for hours or even days.
- Test your checkout once or multiple times per day so you can be confident everything is working.
- Simulate purchases with real credit card payments.
- Setup multiple products to be purchased with a live checkout.
There is no pricing available yet but you can sign up to be notified when it launches.

The Page Flows library allows you to study how top brands design their onboarding, upgrading, downgrading and other key user flows.
I particularly like their "Making a purchase" section where you can watch short videos of how the ordering process works with many top brands.
Access for many of the flows does require membership which is $99 per year.
