Hi there, hope you're having a great Friday!
This is Colm and Simon from CommerceGurus, with a handpicked weekly roundup of eCommerce articles.
Cart abandonment remains one of the biggest challenges for eCommerce stores, but there's another missed opportunity that's often overlooked: the moment just before checkout.
When a customer has already decided to buy, they're often open to adding more - if the right products are suggested at the right time.
That's where cart drawer upsells come in. Rather than redirecting shoppers to product pages (which risks breaking their buying momentum), a well-designed cart drawer lets you suggest relevant items directly in the cart, making it easy for customers to add them with a single click.
Our new Shopify app, CommerceGurus Cart Upsells, adds a feature-rich cart drawer to your store designed specifically for this purpose - helping you increase average order value without disrupting the checkout experience.
In this guide, we'll walk through what our Shopify app can do, how it works, and how it can help your store generate more revenue.

Dylan from ecom landers has demonstrated an excellent before/after example of a landing page once CRO improvements have been applied.
- A top bar is added with a discount code.
- Social proof above the main title provides reassurance to new buyers who don't know the brand.
- Improved headline copy and styling, emphasising "wake up recharged" is particularly important.
- Three USPs added to further explain the benefits of the product
- The main CTA button is now less generic, "Start Sleeping Deeper" is far better than "Shop Now".
- The 60-day guarantee text at the bottom provides further reassurance that the item is worth trying.

Rodolfo from Business Bloomer explains how to fill a gap in WooCommerce’s default behavior.
By default, WooCommerce doesn’t send any notification when a coupon code is actually used in an order, even though coupons are often part of marketing, affiliate, or internal workflows.
He has created a simple PHP code snippet you can add to your child theme's functions.php file that hooks into the order completion process and sends a custom email whenever an order includes a specific coupon you care about.
You can use this to alert yourself, or a team member whenever that coupon gets redeemed, without needing extra plugins or services.

Mailcheep is an email marketing platform that aims to cut out the ongoing subscription fees most services charge by offering lifetime access for a one-time payment of $99 and then letting you send mail using your own Amazon SES account, where you only pay roughly $0.10 per 1,000 emails sent.
It gives you the usual tools for newsletters and campaigns - from a drag-and-drop editor and contact segmentation to scheduling and basic analytics - but with no monthly bill beyond your actual sending costs through AWS.
For this particular newsletter we actually use Sendy, which is built on a very similar idea of using Amazon SES to keep costs low without subscription pricing.
Sendy is an excellent alternative to Mailcheep if you want an affordable, self-managed email setup that lets you own your sending infrastructure and pay only for what you send.

Wojtek Witkowski has published his “Favorite Personal Sites of 2025” - a curated showcase of creative personal websites that grabbed his attention.
Rather than reviewing each one, he simply lists a bunch of fun, expressive homepages and portfolios from designers, builders, and makers - places that feel personal and full of character, giving you a peek into the personalities behind them.
This is a great source of inspiration if you are thinking of setting up your own personal website this year.
