Hi there, hope you're having a great Friday!

This is Colm and Simon from CommerceGurus, with a handpicked weekly roundup of eCommerce articles.

How To Reduce Server Response Times (TTFB) in WooCommerce

New on our CommerceGurus blog, Joe Fylan walks through the most effective ways to reduce TTFB in WooCommerce, starting with the changes that make the biggest difference.

If you're not familiar with it, TTFB is how long your server takes to start responding, and when it's slow, everything else gets delayed too.

The article covers hosting, CDNs with full page caching, server-level optimizations like Redis and PHP updates, and smaller wins like cleaning up autoloaded data and blocking bad bots.

He also explains why you should be testing your key pages from multiple locations rather than just running a single PageSpeed Insights test on your homepage.

This is an important topic when it comes to performance and is well worth a read if your store feels sluggish and you're not sure where to start.

The History of Core Web Vitals

Core Web Vitals are a set of performance metrics introduced by Google to help measure real user experience on websites.

As Addy Osmani explains, they were created to give developers a simple, shared way to understand how fast and stable a site feels for visitors.

Instead of focusing only on technical benchmarks, the metrics look at what users actually experience while a page loads and becomes interactive.

The three main metrics focus on loading speed (Largest Contentful Paint), responsiveness to interaction (now measured by Interaction to Next Paint), and visual stability (Cumulative Layout Shift).

These metrics are built into tools like Lighthouse, Chrome DevTools, PageSpeed Insights, and Search Console, making it easier for developers to diagnose issues and improve performance.

Over time, Core Web Vitals have helped push the web toward faster, smoother experiences by giving teams clear targets to optimize for.

Remotion: Make Videos Programmatically

Remotion makes creating promo and marketing videos dramatically easier by letting you simply describe what you want — much like talking to ChatGPT.

Instead of wrestling with complex video-editing tools, you can tell it what kind of video to create (a product promo, announcement, social clip, or personalised message), and generate videos automatically from templates and data.

Because videos are generated rather than manually edited, it’s easy to tweak messaging, swap visuals, or produce multiple variations without starting from scratch.

This looks like a brilliant tool for creating marketing videos which were previously too complex or expensive to make.

Never Buy A .online Domain

This post is a useful heads up if you are considering buying a .online domain for your personal site or business.

Tony Sundharam did just that, buying a cheap .online domain for a small project, but shortly after launching the site it was flagged by Google Safe Browsing and blocked in browsers with a security warning despite containing nothing malicious.

The domain was also placed on a registry hold, leaving the site inaccessible and creating a frustrating loop where the registrar, registry, and Google each pointed to someone else for resolution.

After he raised the issue publicly, the block was eventually lifted, with this highlights how fragile trust and security systems can be for newer or less trusted TLDs like .online.

ReelFarm: Automate TikToks that Drive traffic to Your Website

ReelFarm is an AI tool designed to automate the creation and posting of short-form social media videos for platforms like TikTok.

It generates slideshow-style or UGC-style videos using templates, AI visuals, captions, and voiceovers, helping stores produce content quickly without filming or editing manually.

The introduction video is well worth a look if you or your store are lagging in social media content creation.

CommerceGurus Cart Upsells for Shopify Introduces Variant-Level Upsells

This brand new update to CommerceGurus Cart Upsells introduces the ability to create upsells at the variant level rather than just the product level.

This means upsell offers can now be tied to specific variations of a product, such as a particular size, color, or configuration, instead of applying broadly to the entire product.

As a result, upsells can be much more targeted and relevant to what the customer is actually purchasing.

By matching offers to the exact variant in the cart, merchants can present more personalized recommendations, which can improve the chances of conversion and increase average order value.
