Hi there, hope you're having a great Friday!
This is Colm and Simon from CommerceGurus, with a handpicked weekly roundup of eCommerce articles.
Metorik (check out our review) has analyzed billions of data points and hundreds of millions of orders to bring you the first Metorik Insights Report for WooCommerce.
WooCommerce has empowered millions of businesses around the world to sell online for over a decade, all while owning their data (unlike Shopify) and having the ability to customize any part of their store.
Metorik estimates that at least $50B of GMV (gross merchandise value) went through WooCommerce powered stores in 2023.
The report is full of interesting data points including:
- The average number of plugins active per store
- Average order value by day of the week
- Average refund rate and refund amount
- Cart abandonment rates
- Payment gateway AOV($) by industry
Also, on a personal level, we were thrilled to hear from Bryce, the founder of Metorik that Shoptimizer is #6 on the most popular themes list (see screenshot above).

In this talk, Barry Pollard shares how Chrome and the web platform can achieve near-instant page loads using the new Speculation Rules API.
This can therefore also have a direct impact on a site's Core Web Vitals, with near zero LCP, reduced CLS (since any load CLS happens before the initial view), and improved INP (since the load should be completed before the user interacts).
Developers can learn how to accelerate page loads on their own sites with easy to use APIs and gain insights to drive user and business impact from case studies with well-known partners.

Elementor has continued to improve plugin performance and there are some important updates in the latest update.
Elementor 3.22 introduces a new caching feature. Internal performance tests show dramatic differences when comparing the same website with and without the new caching feature; memory usage decreases from 3MB to 8KB, and the Time To First Byte (TTFB) metric improves by 33%-70%.
This version continues the effort to clean up your website’s code by replacing external JavaScript libraries with native JS-based solutions that achieve better results with more modern code.
The first library that has been replaced is waypoint.js, which executes JavaScript functions related to user scrolling. Replacing this JavaScript library reduces memory use by 18KB, improving frontend performance and SEO scores.

Google has started adding “AI overviews” to many of its search results, which essentially throw pre-processed answers that often do not match the original intent of the search.
But in the midst of all this, Google quietly added something else to its results—a “Web” filter that presents what Google used to look like a decade ago, no extra junk.
While Google made its AI-focused changes known on its biggest stage—during its Google I/O event—the Web filter was curiously announced on Twitter by Search Liaison Danny Sullivan.
The results are fascinating. It’s essentially Google, minus anything extra. No parsing of the information in the results. No surfacing metadata like address or link info. And also, no ads.

Navbar Gallery
Navbar Gallery is a curated navigation-focused design inspiration website.
Made by Christina Liubynska, Navbar Gallery began with a spark of inspiration on Twitter, ignited by the creation of footer.design.
Surprisingly, she discovered that there is no dedicated navigation-focused resource for designers. Recognizing this need in the design world, she embarked on a mission to fill it.
