Hi there, hope you're having a great Friday!
This is Colm and Simon from CommerceGurus, with a handpicked weekly roundup of eCommerce articles.
Baymard released some interesting research this week on UX issues which many luxury eCommerce brands suffer from.
I think many of the pitfalls highlighted apply to any eCommerce store, so even if your target market isn't high-end, there's much to learn from here.
Some key points highlighted were:
- No Direct Link to “Return Policy” and “Shipping” in the Footer
- Hard to Understand Return Policies
- Poor Support for “Non-Product” Search
- Not Allowing Users to Purchase Temporarily “Out of Stock” Products
- Not Providing an Estimated Delivery Date or Range

Brian Dean from Backlinko hasn't been writing as frequently lately so I was delighted to see his latest post which lists 21 strategies on promoting a blog.
Part of the reason it takes him so long I think is due to the sheer number of custom images and chart he includes but it results in another excellent article to learn from.
The sections I liked the most included:

WooCommerce have released a new free plugin called Google Listings & Ads.
The plugin makes it simple to showcase your products to shoppers across Google. It takes care of uploading and syncing product data, automatically surfacing this information for free listings, Google Ads, and other Google services.
It also integrates with Google's Merchant Center so you can view all the information directly within your WooCommerce admin area.

It's great to see that WebP support is coming in the soon to be released WordPress 5.8.
WebP is an image format which produces dramatically reduced file sizes, 25-34% smaller than JPEGs - which means faster loading webpages.
This update will mean that users can upload WebP images to the media library but the core development team are also exploring the option of having WordPress perform the image format conversion automatically.
It's good to see that they're also keeping an eye on an even more advanced format called AVIF which promises even greater savings without any loss in quality.

James from IconicWP has teamed up with Adam from WP Crafter to create Orderable - a new plugin for WooCommerce stores.
With Orderable you can accept pickup or delivery orders for food, goods, products or services from your business location.
Unlike many other solutions in this space there are no additional fees for each transaction.
The introduction video is very slick and is well worth a watch.

Finally this week, product reviews are a crucial part of any WooCommerce store.
Studies have found more than nine out of 10 shoppers will hesitate to buy a product with no reviews - but just one review can lead to an 18 percent increase in sales, and five reviews can lead to a 270 percent boost.
This short 30 minute podcast called eCommerce Unscripted: Mastering WooCommerce discusses the importance of reviews and how you can go about gathering more of them.
Note that we're getting really close to launching our own reviews engine! To be one of the first to try it out, be sure and sign up to receive details as soon as it's ready!
