Hi there, hope you're having a great Friday!
This is Colm and Simon from CommerceGurus, with a weekly roundup of eCommerce articles, handpicked by us.
Enjoy!
Think about the last time you bought something online. Did you check out reviews for that thing you bought first? I’m betting the answer is most definitely yes. If you’re anything like me you probably spend way too much time reading product/service reviews before buying anything anymore.
We looked at the best reviews plugins for WooCommerce - which transform the default implementation into something far more impressive.
Wondering about alternatives to WooCommerce? I looked at loads of opensource eCommerce platforms upon which you could build your online store. These are all completely free, with source code you can access and change. All of them are self-hosted so you'll need to have your own web server first of all before you can go about installing any of these. Check out 21+ completely free opensource eCommerce platforms.
A large-scale study from Princeton university analyzed over 53,000 product pages from 11,000 shopping websites to characterize and quantify the prevalence of dark patterns. Some really interesting findings are contained within. Read the study here.
Last week we published the top WooCommerce examples in 2019. It's not just a static gallery of beautiful screenshots. Each example includes a tip or action you can implement on your own WooCommerce site. There are some wonderful sites you can draw inspiration from for your own store.
Building super simple landing pages - carrd.co
I came across a twitter thread during the week which reminded me to take another look at carrd.co - a very easy way to build a one page site. If you need a one-pager for a product launch, email capture, or a simple cv it looks like a super fast and affordable option. The pricing is a killer feature - just $9 a year for up to 100 separate landing pages. The free plan gives you 3.
Built by @ajlkn - check out his interview on IndieHackers also and learn how he's turned it into a project making $30k a month.
Latest Shoptimizer updates
If you've been using our Shoptimizer WooCommerce theme, we pushed a couple of nice updates this week in version 1.7.0, squashing a couple of bugs and adding some nice features. See everything on theme theme's changelog page.
That's it for this edition. Simply reply to this email if you have any questions or suggestions, we read every message. Have a great week and best of luck with your projects!
