Hi there, hope you're having a great Friday!
This is Colm and Simon from CommerceGurus, with a handpicked weekly roundup of eCommerce articles.

Jeff Park argues that many eCommerce brands are losing sales simply because their product images don’t answer any of the customer’s questions.
The fastest and most effective improvement, it says, is to upgrade your product images using a specific formula. The formula suggests that each image should address six key questions:
- What is the product?
- What problem does it solve?
- How does it work?
- What are the materials, ingredients, features, size?
- What are the biggest objections or hesitations, and how do you address them?
- Has it worked for people like the shopper (i.e., social proof or evidence)?
What’s especially relevant today is that a new wave of AI tools - like ChatGPT, Gemini, and others make producing these kinds of informative, high-converting product images far easier than ever.
Brands no longer need expensive design teams to create visuals that educate, reassure and persuade.

After researching our own CommerceGurus blog post on eCommerce product quizzes I like to keep an eye out for any new ones I come across.
Aesop uses a simple but nicely branded Gift Finder quiz to help customers choose the right present.
The experience starts with a warm, wellbeing-focused quote, then asks three short, conversational questions about the occasion, the recipient and the shopper’s budget.
Based on those answers, the site presents curated product recommendations and offers paths to explore more options or retake the quiz. The whole flow uses hand-drawn illustrations and sensory-driven copy, making it feel personal and guided rather than like a typical product filter.
For eCommerce stores, this kind of guided-shopping experience can be incredibly valuable. Quizzes reduce choice overload, increase confidence in the purchase, and help customers discover products they may have overlooked.

Baymard Institute’s research reveals that the product description is often the make-or-break point in an online shopper’s journey.
When users find enough relevant information, they feel confident purchasing; when details are lacking, they tend to abandon the product or even the entire site.
Despite this, 10% of major eCommerce sites still fail to maintain a consistent level of detail in their product descriptions, putting themselves at a competitive disadvantage.
The study highlights that comprehensive product information, especially on materials, ingredients, dimensions, and compatibility is essential.
Users rely on these details to make informed choices, particularly for products that must meet specific needs, such as apparel, electronics, or consumables. Providing this information clearly, with units labeled and ambiguities avoided, prevents confusion and builds trust.
