I love Baymard's in-depth research into eCommerce UX and their latest, on product images, is no exception.
Providing the right kind of product images is essential to users’ ability to understand key visual details and make a purchase decision about a particular product.
During Baymard’s large-scale usability testing across desktop and mobile, they observed that, for certain products, simple “Cut Out” images of the product against a while background are simply not enough for users to get a sense of their physical qualities.
Specifically, products designed to be worn — apparel; accessories such as bags, jewelry, or watches; and cosmetics — require the context of a human model in order to get the truest sense of the product.

Brian Dean's 'deep-dive' posts on SEO are always interesting. His latest looks at 306 million keywords and has a huge amount of fascinating research.
His team looked at keyword distribution, query length, keyword difficulty, CPC, SERP features, and more.
Search demand is concentrated in a small percentage of high volume terms. In fact, the top 500 most popular search terms make up 8.4% of all search volume. And the top 2000 keywords are responsible for 12.2% of all searches conducted in Google.
Also, 14% of keywords were question keywords. This shows that there’s still a lot of opportunity out there.

There's an interesting post on the Cloudways blog about various trends to look out for in 2020 and 2021.
Trends emerge over time. How customers shop. What they buy and how they respond to marketing tactics employed by businesses. Within the last decade, a lot of new trends have emerged with a profound influence.
This post looks at 25 different areas where eCommerce could be heading in the next 12 months. These include increased automation, more shipping options, mobile commerce and voice search. It brings up interesting discussion points for anyone selling online or thinking about doing so.

Joost de Valk, founder of Yoast SEO has another analysis of the market share of various CMS options and it's interesting to see where things stand as we approach the end of 2020.
A lot has changed this year, in large part attributable to COVID-19. As I said in June, this has lasting effects, with WordPress, WooCommerce and Shopify’s market shares steadily on the rise.
Two key numbers jump out.
- WordPress is the #1 CMS with a 39.0% market share, 4.2% higher than November 2019.
- Shopify, which overtook Joomla as the #2 this year, has 3.1% market share, which is up 1.4% over the last 12 months.
