Hi there, hope you're having a great Friday!
This is Colm and Simon from CommerceGurus, with a handpicked weekly roundup of eCommerce articles.
Harry Molyneux from DTC Pages writes: This may seem like an obvious suggestion (it is), but every store should start their checkout customization by adding reviews.
In our tests, this has consistently added the most value in the checkout, and has been successful in all but one instance.
From the tests he has seen, they help push hesitant buyers over the edge (to buy) more than they distract other customers.
Remember, our own Shoptimizer WooCommerce theme makes it easy to include reviews on the checkout page via a dedicated checkout widget!
Smashing Magazine has published an interesting article from Anna Rátkai where she discusses sustainable eCommerce and where sometimes, including some friction in the purchasing process may actually be a good thing.
To achieve truly sustainable eCommerce, designers must shift from encouraging impulse purchases to supporting thoughtful decisions.
Instead of “helping” users glide through the checkout process with one-click buy buttons, adding a step to review their order and give them a pause could help reduce unnecessary purchases - which helps reduce refunds and potentially complaints.
We could also be transparent about the social and environmental impact of an item or provide additional guidelines on how to care for the product to last a long time.
For example, Asket has a section called “Lifecycle” where they highlight how to care for, repair and recycle their products.

WooCommerce product reviews are actually just regular WordPress comments.
When you install WordPress, comment notifications for admins are turned on. You can choose to receive emails for all new comments, or only for comments that require moderation.
The problem is that if your site gets a lot of spam comments, you might be bombarded with emails. Even with legitimate comments, constant notifications can be overwhelming.
This useful code snippet from Business Bloomer allows you to get notifications for WooCommerce product reviews only.

One app which is on my to-do list to start using more of is Screen Studio. Developed by Adam Pietrasiak, this an app for MacOS which allows you to produce high-impact videos automatically, and is perfect for short product demos and tutorials.
It will automatically zoom in on actions you take on the screen and pans to follow mouse movement. The zooms/pans are buttery smooth, and make any videos you create look super-professional.
